St Francis Golden Anniversary
How fast time flies by! We just had our Kick-off two years ago and now it's almost Oct 4, St Francis Day. This year is the golden anniversary, 50 years of Franciscan presence in Guihulngan.
After much hangyu-hangyo, the Alumni Board finally convinced SFC school administration to move the slot for the Alumni Homecoming from September 29 to October 3, 2012. So our program for the Alumni is, Registration in the afternoon of October 3 (we have photobooth available, 3 pictures for P/100), dinner per batch from 7-8 pm at the school grounds. A set of 3 tables and 12 chairs per batch is available at P/900, additional chairs at 50 pesos each. Please reserve seats at Dr Carampatan's store, corner of Villegas and Osmena sts.
Again, after much hangyo-hangyo, batches may put up your own tents, but please, please, use white tents para naa tay unity of colors.Bahala na unsay shape, basta puti. (O puti-puti ;)
Come early, first come, first use of parking area. No more area, no more parking, ok?
For dinner, batches may bring their own food. If you need assistance for food orders, just say so, naay tay daghan taga-Guihulngan ka-orderan. I heard the Commercial Cooking Class of GSSDC-TESDA headed by very able Nino Aranas are taking orders.
And here's the official line-up of activities (posted by school administration):

Guihulngan Products in Dumaguete
For a little adventure and some change of scenery, Guihulngan Weavers of Pandan Association (acronymn GWAPA)brought their wares to the DTI-Hypermart sponsored Weekend Bazaar. I joined the group as councilor for the Guihulngan Satellite Skills Development Center (GSSDC) who had a hand in organizing this group.
From pandan mats or banig, to floormats, bags, bayongs, the group has even progressed to Christmas decors and other handicrafts from indigenous materials. They have cute magnetic souvenirs which remind us of hometown and Christmas. Congratulations to GWAPA!

Smoke Free Guihulngan
Guihulngan legislators finally took time to talk about a proposed ordinance on regulating smoking of cigarettes in public places. The proposed ordinance, sponsored by Hon Leticia M Pasigna, a medical doctor, and Hon Jessica Villarmente, a mother of 3 young men, was filed last June 7.
It will be noted that Guihulngan Sanggunian has an equal number of legislators who smoke cigarettes, and do not smoke at all.
Hon Rock Candido and Hon Bobby Bustamante, who are non-smokers, are supporting this ordinance. Hon Jekjek Masicampo, an occassional smoker, is also supportive. Hon Edison dela Rita and Hon Popoy Mimis, themselves smokers, asked for the regulation of smoking (instead of prohibiting it totally) and for the assignment of smoking areas.
The proposed ordinance will go on public hearing on Tuesday afternoon.
